The Connected Communities Research Lab explores how people and objects are embedded and interact within community settings in ways that enhance individuals’ wellbeing and the environments in which they live and work. These include societal innovation enabled by information systems, Internet of Things and Big Data.
Projects are carried out by academics and postgraduate students from the Lancaster University Management School, the Lancaster School of Computing and Communications (InfoLab) , other universities around the world and subject experts from the Institute of Consulting (IC), the Chartered Institute for IT (BCS) and technology companies.

Research and advisory activities include
- Innovation through information and communication technologies including Internet of Things (IOT)
- Strategic planning and organisational development in the public and private sectors
- Information systems and knowledge management
- Market research including new product development and adoption
